About Martin

Martin Ward is a 41 year old award winning chef from Ayr. Originally from Morton, Derbyshire, Martin is settled in nearby Alloway with his wife Melanie and 2 children Konrad and Sophia. 

Martin is currently the Head Chef at the Balgarth Pines Restaurant in Doonfoot where is specialises in modern Scottish cuisine with a twist…

In his 25 year career Martin started out as an apperentice with Swallow Hotels and has since worked in many establishments including The Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire, Ivy House and as Executive Head Chef for the Buzzworks Group in Ayrshire.

The Cracklin Hog is a new venture for Martin and one he is really looking forward to bringing to the people of Ayrshire and around Scotland. Watch the "Whole Hog" being cooked by Martin and his team in front of your eyes on his bespoke mobile spit roast oven.
